Welcome back, connectors! If you need help with today’s NYT Connections mystery, I’m here to offer my help with some additional clues and solutions for the yellow, blue, green, and purple groups.

The last time I published one of these Connections guides was in June. Now we’re rushing through July as fast as we can. This is the halfway point in 2026, and that’s when time really starts to speed up. Blink and it’s Christmas. Before that happens, of course, we should probably resolve today’s Connections.

Don’t miss my weekend streaming guide, which rounds up all the best new TV shows and movies coming out this weekend for you to watch at home or go see in the cinema. Hail Mary Project is already available to stream, and several new shows have just arrived on Netflix, Apple and other sites.

ForbesWhat to watch this weekend: New shows and movies to stream on Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, Apple TV and other platforms

According to Connections Bot, today’s Connections have a difficulty rating of 2/5. Shall we?

How to play Connections

Connections is NYT Games’ second most popular puzzle game outside of the basic crossword itself, and is an extremely fun free offering that will keep your brain busy every day. Play it right here.

The goal is to take a group of 16 words and find connections between four pairs of four of them. These could be specific categories of terms or small puzzles where words may come before or after them that you need to solve. And then they become more complex.

There’s only one set of correct answers for this, and you only get a certain number of tries, so you can’t just spam around until you find something. There are difficulty levels coded by color, which usually change from yellow, blue/green to purple as the difficulty increases, so be aware of this when you start tying them together.

You choose four words that you think are connected and either you get the solution or a glowing line showing how you were connected. If you are close, he will tell you that you are one step away. Again, you lose four errors, but if you want answers without errors, either go here or clear your cookies and try again. If you want to play more puzzle games, you can get a subscription to NYT Games to get access to complete archives of all past puzzle games.

Today’s NYT Connections is rated 4/5 on the Connections Bot difficulty scale. but it seemed easier to me. Of course, I didn’t know what connection there was between the purple words before I linked them, although looking back it’s obvious. I was of course confused by Tungsten, which I tried to associate with Gold and Platinum for obvious reasons. But there was no fourth metal, so I decided it was a trick.

The yellow was simple enough for anyone who has ever eaten cereal or muesli for breakfast in their life, and the green was simple too, although I can see how GOLD and CASH can be related as types of money or wealth. Overall, I’m surprised this gets a 4/5 rating, but I guess there are enough distractions to make it somewhat of a gimmick.
