Sumona Chakravarti, 38, had endometriosis surgery: 'She has 3 visible scars'

Actress Sumona Chakravarthy has been missing from social media for a couple of months now and she recently revealed why. The actress said she had been living “under a rock for the past two months” and resurfaced to reveal she had surgery to remove endometriosis. She first spoke about her diagnosis of stage IV endometriosis in 2021.

The actress said that despite the fact that she struggled with this disease for many years, it progressed significantly, and it was time for her to get rid of it. She also shared how it has changed her and how she would like to use her voice and social media to create a community of “like-minded people, especially women.”

On Instagram, the actor wrote: “Glad to be born again after a long time. I’ve been living under a rock for the last two months.”

“On May 4, I had surgery to remove endometriosis, which, unfortunately, had progressed greatly despite the fact that I had been trying to cope with it for many years,” Chakravarty added.

She shared that she has spent the last two months “healing physically and mentally. And today I can honestly say that I am doing well. Very well, in fact,” the TV actress admitted, thanking her doctor and her team.

Sumona said that all this time she wanted to use WhatsApp and Instagram, but she realized that these were not practical choices. “In the end, I’m not going to the mountains yet. I have a job, a family, friends and a life,” she added.

However, she shared that she wants to change the way she uses and interacts with social media. Initially, she was chasing the number of likes, comments and subscribers.

“Instead, I would like to create a community of like-minded people, especially women,” the actor said.

She wants to create a space for conversations about health – physical and mental – perimenopause, endometriosis, general wellness, travel, books, plants, food, pets, choosing to be single or a DINK (double income, no kids) couple.

Sumona Chakravarti calls out men to objectify her on social media

In her post, the actress also admitted that over the years, she has experienced unusual comments on her posts that either troll certain parts of her body or make perverted and rude remarks. She noted that, unfortunately, most of these comments come from men. “Good people don’t really communicate publicly. They are reading. They like it. Sometimes they write to me personally. And they move on,” she added.

“So, what’s the solution? Yes, I’m an actress. A woman. I’m going to attract a certain kind of gentry. It comes with the territory. I’m going to keep working and acting until my very last breath,” she shared.

Sumona added that she keeps her personal life private and plans to continue to do so, but she would like to share her struggle with endometriosis in the hope that it might actually help someone else.

The actress said she turned 38 in June and realized that the people who loved her wished her well, despite her being away from social media. “The point I’m trying to make is that it reminded me that Instagram is not the benchmark for love, relationships or how remembered you are,” she further added.

Sumona noted that she is much more interested in paying attention to the life she lives. “After the surgery, I now have three visible scars on my stomach,” she said, adding that she is not sure if they will ever go away and they bother her.

“Scars and memories are proof of a life lived,” she added proudly.

“At 38 years old, I understand that you shouldn’t be afraid of aging. It’s a privilege. If age brings a little more wisdom, a little more perspective, a little more gratitude and a few scars along the way. I’ll take every one of them.”

The actress concluded the post by saying that she wants her Instagram account to be an extension of herself and her personality. She assured fans that she would continue to post about work and training.

Before finishing, she revealed that she went to Istanbul for her birthday, a last-minute decision. “38 suits me,” the caption read.
