Kent Cricket is pleased to confirm that Bangladesh selector Hasan Mahmud has been given selection for Kent Spitfires’ final three Vitality T20 Blast group stage matches, subject to regulatory approval.

The 26-year-old has impressed in his two appearances for Kent in the Rothesay County Championship this summer, taking 12 wickets in just two matches, including a career-best 6 for 69 in the Man of the Match against Lancashire at Blackpool.

Apart from becoming the first Bangladesh player to play for Kent in the County Championship, the right-arm fast bowler will now become the first Bangladesh player to be a Kent Spitfire in the T20 competition.

He has played 26 matches for his country in the T20 tournament so far, taking 28 wickets at an average of 24.75.

Hassan will be available for selection for Kent’s next match away to Hampshire Hawks tomorrow, as well as the Spitfires’ two home matches to complete the group stage of the competition: at home to Surrey on Friday 10 July and at Middlesex on Sunday 12 July.

Returning early for three matches of the Vitality T20 Blast, Hasan said: “I have enjoyed my time at Kent so far and when the opportunity arose for me to return and contribute to the Vitality Blast, I did not hesitate.

“These are three crucial games and I will do everything I can to help Kent qualify for the play-offs.

“On a personal level, I am grateful to Kent for trusting me.

“I see this as a great opportunity to perform in one of the best T20 competitions and hopefully push myself towards a return to white-ball cricket in Bangladesh.”

Kent director of cricket Simon Cooke said: “We are delighted Hasan has made himself available for T20 selection over the next week or so.

“He has a huge T20 pedigree along with his first-class skills and his willingness to help the team after we lost the services of Dian Forrester to Major League Cricket shows that he will be a valuable addition at an important stage of the competition.”

Hassan is also set to return to Kent for the completion of the Rothesay County Championships this September.
