At 15 years and 99 days, Vaibhav Suryavanshi became India’s youngest debutant in international cricket. Shreyas Iyer confirmed his arrival at the expense of Sanju Samson, who was the player of the tournament when India won the T20 World Cup a few months ago. India won the toss in Manchester and elected to bat, meaning the youngster will be in the thick of things.
England named their squad ahead of the match. Captain Harry Brooke mentioned that he would also like to bat. “A little finished,” he replied when asked about his Sooryavanshi homework. “We thought about some tactical decisions. We are talking about their implementation on the same day.”
Jofra Archer, who was an unwitting ally in creating a storm around Sooryavanshi when their IPL franchise, Rajasthan Royals, released a video of him facing the fast bowler in the nets in 2025, returned to the England squad, while Josh Tong was handed his first T20I cap of his own, with his partner and son in attendance. Saqib Mahmood and Luke Wood remained on the sidelines.
England have fond memories of playing at Old Trafford, having previously scored over 300 goals in T20Is.
