The Fourth of July weekend is upon us, and millions of Americans are expected to gather across the country to celebrate with fireworks and barbecues. This year marks a special milestone as the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary of independence.

Since July 4th falls on a Saturday this year, businesses can celebrate the July 3rd holiday. However, most retail stores will be open on Friday. Read on to find out which stores will be open on July 3 and 4, 2026.

What stores will be open?

The following stores are open during regular hours on July 3-4. Check local store opening hours as they may vary by location.

  • Applebee’s
  • Burger King
  • Chick-fil-A
  • CVS Pharmacy (Some stores/pharmacies may have reduced opening hours, a representative said)
  • Domino’s
  • Dollar General
  • Food Lion
  • IHOP
  • KFC
  • Hooks (Most stores will remain open with some exceptions, a spokesperson said)
  • Lowe
  • Macy
  • McDonald’s
  • Stop and buy
  • Target
  • Walmart

The following stores are open on regular hours on July 3rd, but have changed hours on July 4th:

  • Best buy opens at 10am and closes at 7pm
  • IKEA stores will open at 10 a.m. and close at 6 p.m.
  • JC Penney will open at 10am (customers should check with their local store for closing hours)
  • Marshalls shops will close at 8 pm
  • Nordstrom (select stores have special 4th of July holiday hours)
  • HomeProducts shops will close at 8 pm
  • Homesense shops will close at 8 pm
  • Michaels shops will close at 18:00
  • Petco shops will close at 19:00
  • Trader Joe’s shops will close at 17:00
  • TJ Max shops will close at 8 pm
  • Sierra shops will close at 8 pm
  • Whole Foods shops will close at 18:00

Is Costco open?

Costco will close on July 4, a spokesperson told CBS News.

Target is open

Target stores will be open during regular business hours from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. local time on July 3 and 4.

Is Walmart open?

Walmart stores will be open during regular business hours from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. local time on July 3 and 4.

Will USPS deliver mail?

US Post Offices will reopen on Friday, July 3, and mail delivery will continue as normal, according to the USPS website. The agency will close stores and suspend next-day mail delivery around July 4th, with services resuming on Monday, July 6th.

Will FedEx and UPS be open?

UPS retail locations will reopen July 3 and delivery services will continue as usual. However, UPS Air and Ocean Freight Services, used for oversized cargo, will not be available Friday.

On July 4th, UPS will cease pickup and delivery services. The delivery company advises customers to check with their local store for opening hours on Saturday as some stores may be closed.

FedEx stores may also be closed on July 3rd and 4th. The company’s website encourages customers to contact their local FedEx office for more information. Regular delivery and curbside pickup services will operate Friday, although drive-thru and curbside pickup schedules may be earlier than usual in some areas. Pickup and delivery services will be closed on Saturday.

Will banks be open?

Major banks, including JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America and Wells Fargo, will remain open on Friday, July 3. Most banks close on July 4th for Independence Day, according to their holiday schedule.

Will the stock market be open?

The stock market will be closed on Friday, July 3, in observance of Independence Day. Trading will resume on Monday, July 6 at 9:30 a.m. ET.
