A major fire occurred late Friday evening. According to the fire service, firefighting efforts continued Saturday morning. Visibility may be limited in some parts of the city.
The fire broke out in the industrial area of Stuttgart-Wangen late on Friday evening. Since the evening hours, more than 200 emergency services from the professional fire brigade, voluntary fire brigade, rescue service and technical assistance service have been on duty. No one was injured, police said. The smoke and light of the fire could be seen from afar in Stuttgart. According to the fire service, when emergency services arrived at the market in Stuttgart-Wangen, the warehouse was completely engulfed in flames. The fire spread to another room. Even at 5am on Saturday, the fire was still not under control.
Starke Smoke development will also continue on Saturday
“We have a really large fire spread and also a huge fire intensity,” Daniel Anand, a spokesman for the Stuttgart fire department, told SWR. According to emergency services, the intensity of the fire was reduced overnight and the fire was prevented from spreading to other warehouses. According to Anand, the Stuttgart fire department has not dealt with a fire of this size or such a large-scale operation in recent years. This is a “very unusual event.”
According to the Stuttgart control center, a water supply system has been installed to ensure fire fighting. In addition, several large tank fire engines supported operations. To prevent the damage from becoming even worse, the trucks were driven away from the warehouses. According to a police spokesman, employees of the wholesale market reported a fire and explosion. It is not yet clear in which building this happened.
Residents should close windows and doors
Firefighters informed the public late last night using warning apps. A large fire produces a lot of smoke and unpleasant odors. Particularly in the area of Bad Cannstatt there are sometimes visibility restrictions due to the location. Residents of Wangen and neighboring areas should close windows and doors and turn off air conditioning and ventilation devices. Firefighters are also calling for ensuring that all entrances to the fire site are clear.
