Before we get into the quarterback rankings, a quick message to those mysterious forces that control the fate of football games: Can you quit because of quarterback injuries?
It was bad enough with Bo Levi Mitchell and Zach Collaros, but then you had to injure Nathan Rourke on the BC Lions’ second play from scrimmage? Really?

1. (1) DAVIS ALEXANDER | MONTREAL ALOUETTE
Over the past two weeks, the Montreal Alouettes have beaten the Calgary Stampeders, and their quarterback has gained over 700 yards and scored four touchdowns.
Davis Alexander just set the record for most pass attempts without an interception. What makes this record so remarkable is that Davis doesn’t take any chances. He does not do conservative testing.
Alexander has topped 300 yards in every game this year. One game stands out in the team’s 38-32 win over the Stampeders. In the second quarter, Davis committed the cardinal sin among passers: he threw over the body to the middle of the field. They (whoever they are) always tell you never to do this…unless you’re Davis Alexander. That pass led to a 25-yard touchdown run by Tyler Snead, putting the Alouettes up 22-0.
2. (2) TREVOR HARRIS | SASKATCHEWAN RAFFRIDERS
This ranking may be too high, as we last saw Trevor Harris in a 38-7 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in which he put up a modest showing.
However, if you go back and watch his two interceptions, both can be attributed to the outstanding play of All-CFL cornerbacks Wynton McManis and Stavros Kasantonis.
3. (-) DREW BROWN | WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS
I promise I’m not doing this to troll the good city of Ottawa. Credit must be given to Drew Brown, who, due to an injury to Zach Collaros, was handed the starting job shortly after being traded to Winnipeg and responded with two wins.
I liked his aggressiveness against Toronto when he connected with Tommy Neild for 25 yards and his team went up 29-21 in the second with less than three minutes left to help put the game away. Against the REDBLACKS, he missed a few shots but was very effective late in the third and throughout the fourth quarter, leading Winnipeg to a comeback and two-point conversion in a 36-34 win.
4. (5) CHAD KELLY | TORONTO ARGONAUTS
If Lirim Hajrullahu kicks a 31-yard field goal to beat the Tigercats, I think a lot of people will look at Chad Kelly differently.
Kelly wasn’t perfect against Hamilton, but he gave the Argonauts a chance to win. In the team’s 30-21 loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, I can point out some elite throws, including a 55-yard over-the-shoulder throw to Makai Polk and then an absolute laser toss to Polk for a 15-yard score in the fourth quarter.
5. (6) CODY FAJARDO | EDMONTON ELKS
Cody Fajardo scored more points and Edmonton scored much more points in their 40-17 Week 6 win over Ottawa, but I was more impressed with Fajardo’s night in the team’s 19-17 win over the Lions.
The week prior, the Elks receivers (led by Brendan O’Leary-Orange’s heroic 90-yard catch) gained 228 yards after the catch against the REDBLACKS defense. They also lined up over 200 yards on the ground. Fajardo received a lot of help that night. BC managed to hold Justin Rankin and Javon Leake to 12 yards on Friday, but Fajardo, along with a ferocious defense, found a way to get the win.
6. (4) VERNON ADAMS JR. | CALGARY STAMPEDERS
There’s no shame in losing both games to Montreal, the best team in the CFL led by the game’s best defenseman. Vernon Adams Jr.’s numbers were nearly identical in both losses, throwing for 272 yards and three touchdowns in Week 6 and then throwing for 273 yards and another hat trick of touchdowns last week.
Both contests were tied, and in the second, Adams Jr. did give Calgary a 15-yard touchdown pass to running back Dedrick Mills to tie the game at 32.
7. (7) JAKE MAYER | OTTAWA REDBLACKS
Yes, four interceptions against Edmonton looks bad on paper, but remember that two of them came late in the game when Ottawa was losing by a significant margin.
When they nearly lost to Winnipeg, the headline was naturally about Drew Brown’s victory over his “former” team, but Jake was the better passer on Sunday night. Mayer got hit time and time again and still managed to create big plays downfield.
His 34-yard pass to Aiden Eberhardt on the first play of the third quarter was incredibly daring as Michael Fletcher, who was called second class for a roughing a passing penalty, hit him just as he released the ball. This was Jake’s best game of the season and he deserved a better result.
8. (-) TRE FORD | HAMILTON TIGER-CATS
If Tre Ford can improve on his performance against Toronto, we could be in for some exciting times in the East.
I don’t understand how he got the ball to Larry Rountree III in the first quarter. When he was knocked down, he somehow threw the ball to his runner to convert second and long. His scramble led to Kenny Lawler’s 25-yard touchdown, and Ford was the game’s most dangerous runner.
I’m not sure if his interception to Benji Franklin was due to a miscommunication with the receiver or just a bad decision, but I really enjoyed his moment of revenge with a 35-yard throw to Kerik Whitfall just over Franklin’s hands late in the third quarter.
9. (-) CHASE BRYCE | BC LIONS
Chase Brice found himself in a tough spot replacing Rourke, and the Elks defense hounded him from start to finish.
