UPDATED: Avatar: Seven Harbors has an official premiere date on Paramount+. And what date is this?
The new installment in the Avatar franchise will debut on October 9 on the streaming service. This date should catch the attention of fans as it was originally set to coincide with the premiere of Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, but the release was pushed back to July 25 after the film leaked online earlier this year.
Like previous Avatar series, Seven Havens is divided into two “books”, each containing 13 episodes.
Note. An earlier version of this story stated that Seven Harbors would release all 26 episodes simultaneously. A person familiar with the situation said an exact deployment date has not yet been determined.
Paramount also released the show’s first teaser trailer, which can be seen below.
According to the official logline, the new show “centers around a young Earthbender who discovers that she is the new Avatar after Korra in a world ravaged by a devastating cataclysm. In this dangerous era, the title marks her as the destroyer of humanity rather than its savior. Pursued by both human and spiritual enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save Seven Havens before the last strongholds collapse civilization.”
It stars Saheli Khan as Pavi, Aishu Dewan as Nisha, Akshaye Khanna as Karthik, Major Kurda as Je, Sakina Jaffrey as Agam, Darren Barnett as Damin, Diane Doan as Zee and Dee Bradley Baker as Geet and Ruhi.
Avatar: Seven Harbors is created by franchise masterminds Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, who also serve as executive producers through Avatar Studios. Ethan Spaulding is also an executive producer and Sehaj Sethi is a co-executive producer. Nickelodeon and Avatar Studios are producing.
Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender will debut with a special screening at San Diego Comic-Con on July 24 and will be shown on streaming the following day. The film will also receive a week-long awards qualifier in New York and Los Angeles theaters instead of the full theatrical release it was originally scheduled to receive.
Avatar: The Last Airbender premiered on Nickelodeon in 2005 and ran for three seasons. It is widely regarded as one of the greatest animated series of all time, and was followed by a sequel series, The Legend of Korra, which premiered in 2012 and ran for four seasons.
