NEW DELHI Former India opener Abhinav Mukund has selected his 15-member squad for the 2027 ODI World Cup with some interesting choices.Mukund, who represented India in seven Tests between 2011 and 2017, has backed veteran opener Rohit Sharma despite recent speculation about his ODI future. However, Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal failed to qualify.The former cricketer introduced his team on the ESPNcricinfo YouTube channel.

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill moved closer to the top spot in the latest ICC ODI batting rankings released after the series against England.Gill has scored 188 points in the three-match series and is now just one point behind New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell, who tops the rankings with 802 points.Virat Kohli (767) and Rohit Sharma (758) are third and fourth respectively, giving India three batters in the top five.England’s Joe Root, who was named player of the series after scoring an unbeaten 249, moved up four places to eighth. Ben Duckett moved up 11 spots to 19th and Jacob Bethell moved up five spots to 64th.Newly appointed India T20I captain Shreyas Iyer has moved up two places to 13th position in the ODI rankings.Among the bowlers, Kuldeep has dropped one place to 11th position while Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan continues to lead the rankings.
