New Delhi. Every person dreams of having their own permanent home. The central government administers the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) to fulfill this dream of the people from weaker parts of the country. So far, more than 3.34 crore houses have been constructed under PMAY. Under PMAY 2.0, the government has set a target of building 3 million new houses to ensure that every person in the country has a permanent roof over their head. The biggest question is: are you eligible for this scheme? What is the income for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Low Income Group (LIG) and Middle Income Group (MIG) categories created under this scheme and how much subsidy will you get?
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is divided into two different parts. PMAY Rural (PMAY-G) and PMAY-Urban (PMAY-U). PMAY is for rural homeless families living in villages or houses in Kutch. Under the PMAY-Urban scheme, interest subsidy is provided to poor families, low and middle income groups living in urban areas for construction, purchase or home loan.
Who can benefit from the PMAY scheme?
The most important condition to avail the benefits of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is that the family should not have a permanent home anywhere in the country. Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – rural areas, financial assistance is available only to those families whose names are included in the list of SECC-2011 and Awaas+ surveys. In this regard, priority will be given to SC/ST families and people from other weaker sections. The government provides financial assistance of Rs 1.20 lakh for construction of a house in flat areas and Rs 1.30 lakh in hilly/difficult areas.
To avail the benefits of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U), the applicant must be a resident of any state or union territory. He should not have a permanent home anywhere in the country and his annual income should not exceed 9 lakh rupees.
What are the EWS, LIG and MIG categories of PMAY?
To avail the subsidy under PMAY-U 2.0, the government has created three main categories based on annual family income:
- Economically Weak Section (EWS): Families whose annual income is up to 3 lakh rupees.
- Low Income Group (LIG): Families whose annual income is between 3 to 6 lakh rupees.
- Middle Income Group (MIG): Families whose annual income is between 6 to 9 lakh rupees.
How much interest subsidy will be available in PMAY-U?
If your income is up to Rs 9 lakh, you can take a mortgage loan of up to Rs 25 lakh for a house worth Rs 35 lakh. The carpet area of the house can reach 120 square meters. Interest subsidy of up to Rs 1.80 lakh will be available on the loan. The first home loan up to Rs 8 lakh will offer a discounted interest rate of 4% for a period of 12 years. This subsidy will only apply to loans with a maturity of more than five years. The subsidy money will go directly to your bank account in installments over 5 years. The home loan must be active at the time the subsidy is issued and more than 50% of the principal amount must be outstanding.
How to view the list of PMAY beneficiaries?
Whether you have applied for a home loan subsidy or for a new home under PMAY-Urban or PMAY-Rural (PMAY-G), you can see the list of beneficiaries of both options in a few minutes while sitting at home. To view the list of PMAY-Urban, visit the official portal (pmaymis.gov.in). Select the Search by Name option from the Search Beneficiary drop-down menu on the home page. Enter the first three letters of your name in the provided field and click on the “Show” button. A complete list of similar names will appear on the screen. Here you can easily check your name, family details and application status.
To check the PMAY-Gramin list, you need to have the registration number received at the time of application. Visit the official website of PMAY-Gramin (pmayg.nic.in), enter your registration number and submit your application. If your application is accepted and your number is in the approved list, the current status of your application, sanctioned amount and all other required information will immediately appear on the screen.
How to check PMAY application status?
Visit the official website of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana pmaymis.gov.in. Click on the “Citizen Statement” option. After that, click the “Check Status” button. After clicking on “Find out your status”, select the “By name, father’s name and mobile number” option. Select your state, region, and city. After that, enter your name, father’s name and mobile number. Click the “Submit” button. Once you do this, the status of application submitted for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) will appear in front of you.
