Sweden is a dream destination for motorhome travelers, but the Foreign Office is now issuing clear safety advice that travelers should know before packing up.
Sweden attracts thousands of motorhome and caravan holidaymakers from all over Europe every year with its vast forests, crystal clear lakes and legendary entitlement for everyone. During the summer months the campsites fill up quickly and the routes through southern and western Sweden are well traveled. If you want to experience Scandinavian nature, you will find one of the most beautiful alternative destinations in Europe here. And, unfortunately, too often they feel a false sense of security.

Because it is precisely this security that criminals specifically take advantage of. According to current Foreign Office travel and security advice, car break-ins and attacks on caravan and motorhome owners are widespread in Sweden, especially in official campsites. The Foreign Ministry calls such actions there “not uncommon.” The warning is directed directly at travelers who sleep in recreational vehicles or cars.
A series of burglaries in western Sweden: these regions are affected
According to reports from the caravan platform, they are especially dangerous. Promo transit routes in the south and west of the country. The ferry ports of Malmö and Trelleborg, where many holidaymakers from Germany, Denmark and Poland arrive, are considered preferred locations for criminals. The west coast route E6 towards Norway is also regularly affected, with rest areas and parking areas along this route repeatedly appearing in police reports.

Before you go on a camping holiday, you should also know that these common garden plants and vegetables become poisonous when exposed to sunlight.
The Foreign Office provides clear advice. Travelers should choose secure campsites, secure their vehicle with extra locks at night, keep valuables out of sight, and keep documents separate. Having digital copies of important documents, perhaps via the cloud or via email, can save you stress in an emergency. If you follow these tips, you can continue to enjoy Sweden without worry. But caravan holidaymakers are far from the only group targeted by scammers: older people are increasingly being targeted by sophisticated scammers, and German pension insurance is already sounding the alarm.
