On Friday, the CBF will conduct another semi-automatic offside test in three matches of the 19th round of the Brazilian tournament. According to Globo.com, the tests will take place offline and will not affect decisions on the field.
Decisions will be made in accordance with the existing VAR system used in Serie A. SAOT supports VAR by using cameras to track players and the ball, determining the moment of passes and positions within a few seconds, as was the case at the World Cup.
CBF is targeting a 20th round debut and is testing ahead of time. At this stage, access is limited to a pre-selected judging working group.
For the Fluminense v Bragantino match, operators will not operate the system in the Maracanã VAR room. The equipment will capture images at the stadium, while monitoring will take place at the CBF annex in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro.
Implementation requires more than just installing cameras, as SAOT must integrate with VAR and pass connectivity checks. Trials will also be carried out in under-17 and under-20 matches before full implementation.
Conditions such as strong winds and sun position may affect performance. Once the specifics of each Serie A stadium have been agreed upon, the tool will be integrated with VAR.
