A car drives into a cafe in a city in Austria. Rescuers are deployed in large numbers.
In Velden, Austria, a car drove into a cafe early Saturday morning. Several media outlets unanimously reported this. As the Austrian Standard reports, citing the police, eleven people were injured. Two of them are reported to be seriously injured.
The accident occurred around 12.40. The outside area of the cafe was reportedly completely occupied at the time of the accident. According to media reports, there are children among the victims.
According to Standard, the culprit of the accident was a 74-year-old woman. She probably wanted to park near the cafe, but then lost control. The vehicle was reportedly traveling at low speed at the time of the accident.
According to the Kleine Zeitung, several police patrols, rescue vehicles, and a rescue helicopter were deployed.
Velden is located on Lake Wörthersee in the state of Carinthia. This place is home to about 9,000 inhabitants. Velden is a legally recognized climatic resort. The cafe is located in the center.
