Tom Brady wants to bring his well-earned athleticism to the WWE.
Brady, 48, recently spoke with WWE superstar Cody Rhodes on “What Do You Want to Talk About?” podcast live at Fanatics Fest in New York. Brady, 48, said he wants to lace up professional wrestling cleats now that he’s taken football cleats off the market.
“I need to get an invitation. I was waiting for (WWE president) Nick Khan to come up with some kind of storyline so I could get involved,” Brady said Thursday. “I feel like I’ve retired from football and I have the opportunity to go out on the field and show that I’m a bit of an athlete.”
Brady, a seven-time Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, would have a reputation to match in the wrestling world. Over the past decade, several celebrities and professional athletes have staged impressive wrestling matches that have redefined how good celebrity crossovers can be. Actor Stephen Amell and musician Bad Bunny have made numerous guest appearances, while Indianapolis Colts alumnus Pat McAfee and community activist Logan Paul have made multiple appearances in WWE.
“I think I can get there for at least one game,” Brady said. “Come on, Nick. Do it.”
This isn’t the first time Brady has made WWE headlines, although his tenor is very different. In February, Brady and Paul discussed the athleticism inherent in professional wrestling. Brady, considered by many to be the best NFL quarterback of all time, called the WWE “very nice” despite enjoying the product. His statement resonated with professional wrestlers such as current WWE Undisputed Champion CM Punk, Drew McIntyre and Paul Heyman.
Many NFL players have tried their hand at professional wrestling or gone on to have Hall of Fame careers. Former WCW Heavyweight Champion Bill Goldberg spent three seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, and current World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns was a college star at Georgia Tech. Lawrence Taylor and Rob Gronkowski also appeared in WWE crossovers.
