St. Louis City SC returns to MLS regular season action against rivals Sporting KC on Thursday at Energizer Park. The match will begin at 7:45 pm CT and will be available to watch on Apple TV. The match will be St. Louis City SC’s first competitive match since the FIFA World Cup break.

Continuing to gain momentum

St. Louis City SC went into the break riding a five-match unbeaten streak with a 3-0-2 record in all competitions, including a penalty shootout win over the Houston Dynamo to reach their first-ever US Open Cup semi-final. During that stretch, St. Louis also picked up their first win over LAFC and their first road win over the Colorado Rapids. CITY SC currently sit 12th in the Western Conference with a 4-6-4 record and 16 points, just four points away from a play-off spot.

CITY SC beat Austin 3-0 in their last match, with an Austin own goal and goals from Fallou Fall and Daniel Edelman proving the difference on the day. These were Fall and Edelman’s first goals for St. Louis. Twelve players scored for St. Louis in the regular season this year, but only two (Marcel Hartel – 3, Chris Durkin – 2) scored more than one goal. This match was also the club’s second clean sheet of the season.

St. Louis City SC vs Sporting KC

Thursday’s matchup will be the eighth regular season meeting between St. Louis City SC and Sporting Kansas City since City SC entered the league in 2023. City SC has a 3-2-3 lead in the series and has scored 18 goals in its previous seven regular-season games. The rivalry consistently resulted in goals, with 30 goals scored in seven meetings, an average of over four goals per match, with at least two goals scored in every match. At Energizer Park, St. Louis was strong against Sporting, posting a 3-0-1 record in four regular-season home games and outscoring their opponent 13-4.

Sporting are in 15th place in the Western Conference table with 11 points, 14 goals scored and 36 goals conceded. Under new head coach Rafael Wicky, Sporting have recorded two away wins this season, with two 2-1 wins over LA Galaxy and Austin. Sporting lost 2-1 in their last home match against Red Bull New York. Forward Dejan Jovelić leads the team with six goals, while Calvin Harris and Manu Garcia top the assists list with four goals each. Yovelich has four goals against the St. Louis City FC, three of which have come since joining Sporting Kansas City in 2025.
