The break in Sunday’s World Cup final is expected to last between 20 and 25 minutes.

The 11-minute Super Bowl-themed show, headlined by Madonna, Shakira and K-pop boy band BTS, will take place during intermission at the New York, New Jersey, stadium.

While sources within FIFA’s World Cup organizers suggest the break will last around 20 minutes, it is understood one option is the usual 15-minute half-time break followed by a scheduled 11-minute show.

The rules of the game, regulated by Ifab (the International Football Association Board), state that players are entitled to a half-time break of “no more than 15 minutes.”

Halftime at last year’s Club World Cup final, also organized by FIFA and held in New Jersey, lasted a total of 24 minutes thanks to performances from Coldplay, J Balvin, Doja Cat, Tems and Emmanuel Kelly.

Last week, Justin Bieber was added to the Sunday lineup, which also includes headliners Burna Boy, Gustavo Dudamel and the PS22 Chorus featuring Coldplay, and will be curated by singer Chris Martin.

The World Cup final will begin at 15:00 local time (20:00 BST), with the closing ceremony starting at 13:30 local time (18:30 BST).

Tom Cruise, Laura Pausini, Nicole Scherzinger, Robbie Williams and IShowSpeed will perform as part of the ceremony, and Jennifer Hudson will perform the US national anthem.

Spain booked their place in the final by beating France 2-0 in the first semi-final in Dallas on Tuesday.

They will face either England or Argentina, who meet in Atlanta on Wednesday (20:00 BST).
