Manchester United transfers: Nottm Forest star tempted by move to Old Trafford

Manchester United and Newcastle United have shown interest in Nottingham Forest right-back Neco Williams, while Tottenham Hotspur are also keeping an eye on the Wales international, TEAMtalk can confirm.

Sources close to the player said a move to Manchester United would particularly appeal to Williams, despite his long-standing links with Liverpool after coming through their academy. The 25-year-old is believed to be interested in a move amid interest from two Premier League clubs, although no formal offers have been made.

However, Nottingham Forest remain determined to keep Williams at the City Ground. The club is currently in talks with the defender over a new contract, with talks said to be ongoing and constructive.

Forest have made it clear they have no intention of selling him this summer and are prepared to offer a significant salary increase to secure his future.

The approach is similar to that used last season when Forest convinced Morgan Gibbs-White to sign a new contract and reject a move to Tottenham.

Club sources believe the financial package on the table will be enough to convince Williams to stay, especially given his importance to the team.

Williams has been a reliable player for Forest since joining from Liverpool in 2022 and has become a key part of their defensive structure.

Although he is said to be willing to test himself at a bigger club, particularly Manchester United, Forest’s strong stance and willingness to reward him financially has so far kept any potential deal at bay.

However, the situation could change if a club playing in the Champions League makes an official approach.

With the transfer window still open, much will depend on whether United or Newcastle decide to make a formal offer.

Forest are confident at the moment and are keen to retain one of their most consistent and important players.

After losing Elliott Anderson to Manchester City, Forest are reluctant to see their side destroyed and plan to back new manager Oliver Glasner as they try to make it to Europe next season.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are competing with United for two midfield targets, according to reports.
