Hot weather and cold front expected this week: we'll show you when

Hungary will not be threatened with strong heat waves in the coming days; in fact, two cold fronts will reach our country, but on Friday we can expect above-average heat.

– he told 24.hu Laszlo Molnar meteorologist.

According to the specialist, it is quite clear what awaits us in the next 10 days. According to the forecast, a weak cold front moving in a northwesterly direction will reach the Carpathian Basin in the middle of the week. This front will not bring significant cooling yet, but it will be enough to prevent further warming.

Peak values will then range from 28 to 34 degrees, which is about the same as the July average – or only 1-2 degrees above it. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible, but no rain should be expected across the country.

In the second half of the week, on Friday, the air will temporarily warm up again ahead of a new cold front, temperatures could rise to 31-36 degrees, but this heat will not last long, according to Laszlo Molnar.

The weather cools down over the weekend

On Saturday, July 18, a much more pronounced front will reach our country, moving in a northerly direction, which will bring cold air of Arctic origin to our country and keep temperatures below average for several days. Starting Sunday, highs will remain consistently below 30 degrees, with a pleasant, cooler period than July set in for about 4-5 days until July 23rd.

Although the position of Saturday’s front is much more favorable in terms of precipitation, Molnar advises caution.

Instead of national rain, it is better to prepare for local thunderstorm systems. This means that during a thunderstorm up to 20-30 millimeters of rain can fall, while just a few kilometers away not a single drop will fall. According to the meteorologist, it does not appear that this is a long-lasting cold front capable of causing rain across the country – so the drought is still expected to last.
