On July 26, half of the republic will glow a poisonous pink, and the numbers are quite impressive: 44, 45, and sometimes even 47 degrees in the center of Germany. Values that you will never see in the forecast for our country. Unsurprisingly, the map is already widely distributed on the Internet. This summer the temperature in some places has already reached 41 degrees.

Why 47 degrees should be treated with caution
Now comes the big but. This map comes from one run of the model for a date a good two weeks away, and the individual peaks that are well before that are pure computer game. Experience has shown that this particular model tends to produce such high emissions in the long term. Germany’s all-time record is a good 41 degrees, and a jump of six degrees above that mark is simply physically unrealistic. Anyone who writes 47 degrees in their calendar will probably be disappointed.

What actually awaits us at the end of July
And yet: the heat has not yet completely lifted. Because behind the numerical spike there is a tangible signal. Models indicate a persistent high pressure situation during the last week of July, as well as dry soils that continue to warm. And then there will be enough air straight from the Sahara to reach 40 degrees—possibly the first truly muggy day of summer. Record temperature 41.2 degrees? It can really fluctuate at the end of the month. Not at 47, but hot enough to make headlines. The price of water, at least, is already rising due to the drought.
