There was a lot at stake on the ninth night of Play Alberta’s Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby, and with beautiful weather and ideal race track conditions, drivers delivered another exciting evening of wagon racing. When the final results were announced, the stage was set for Sunday’s final race of the championship, which would be a rematch of the 2025 final. Jamie Laboucane, Chance Vigen and Jason Glass qualified for the final heat of the 2026 championship, marking the first time in Rangeland Derby history that the same three riders qualified for the championship final in consecutive years.

Jamie Laboucane took the top qualifying position with the best overall time of the nine days at 10:47.00. Defending champion Chance Vigen qualified second overall with a total time of 10:49.97, while two-time Rangeland Derby champion Jason Glass held on to the all-important third position with a nine-day total of 10:52.11. Logan Gorst finished fourth overall, missing the championship final by 4.17 seconds, and Chad Fike finished fifth, just 4.21 seconds behind Glass and earning a spot in the championship final.

At night, Panorama Advisory Group Jamie Labucana said Kirk’s Trail Tire Wheels were burning Fast Time of the Night with a run of 1:11.01 from barrel two in the ninth run. His time was 63 hundredths of a second faster than Jason Glass, who also competed in heat nine. Ross Knight finished third on the night, followed by Chance Vigen in fourth and Troy Dorchester in fifth. This marked Labukan’s fourth fastest time of night during the 2026 Calgary Stampede.
