It was a year LSU coach Jay Johnson would like to forget.
LSU missed the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2011 and posted its worst record since 2007, the only season in which the program failed to reach 30 wins since Skip Bertman was hired as head coach in 1984.
The campaign ended in complete failure. The Tigers finished with their second national championship in three years and began the season as the No. 2 team in the country. Omaha was the standard, but LSU couldn’t even get an invite to the big dance.
But Johnson wasn’t feeling too sorry for himself this summer after a disappointing season. LSU added arguably the nation’s best transfer portal class combined with a high school sign language class that enters the draft as the No. 2 class in the country according to Perfect Game.
In addition to the return of star player Stephen Milam, LSU has laid the foundation for a roster that is expected to compete for a championship again in 2027.
But Johnson won’t be able to put the finishing touches on his roster until after the 2026 MLB Draft, which begins with Rounds 1-4 at noon Saturday on NBC and continues with Rounds 5-20 beginning at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
