In the open half, Feri is a real underdog. He received a wild card for the tournament as he was a British player and has yet to crack the top 100 players in the world.
But he had a match winner against Zizou Bergs in the third round and had already done well and lasted longer than any of his compatriots. Then he won it. He then defeated Grigor Dimitrov.
He now faces Cobolli, whom he beat at the Australian Open in January.
At just five feet nine inches tall, Feri does not have the physique of a typical male tennis player these days, but can volley well and play with good variation, making his style easy on the eye.
He earned many fans after wearing earplugs while his first-round opponent Damir Dzumhur ranted at the chair umpire, later saying in a press conference that he used them regularly, and for admitting he spotted Tim Henman, the figurehead of British tennis, watching one of his matches, but not Princess Catherine of Wales.
He had already exceeded all expectations and anything else would have been a British bonus in what would otherwise have been a disappointing tournament for his home country.
