A bridge built in Maharashtra at a cost of nearly Rs 48 lakh has reportedly sparked controversy after a viral video showed its railings allegedly being torn off by a slight jolt.

The video fueled accusations of shoddy construction and prompted villagers to demand an investigation into how such a project passed quality checks despite the costs.

The bridge is located in Bankaranja village in Bieda district. According to residents, construction was carried out using low-quality materials, which makes the structure unsafe.

In a video that has gone viral on social media, local resident Durgadas Lamb can be seen pushing the bridge railing with his foot.

After a few moments, the railing appears to come off easily, raising serious questions about the quality of workmanship and materials used.

Villagers say the railings can be broken by even a slight push from a hand or foot, saying this reflects poor construction standards.

RURAL PEOPLE SEEKING A PROBE

After the video appeared online, Lamb demanded an impartial investigation into the construction. He urged the Beed District Collector to investigate the project and take strict action against the contractor as well as the engineers responsible for supervising the work.

“The quality of the bridge must be thoroughly checked and those responsible must be brought to justice,” he said, revealing the alleged defects in a viral video.

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE QUALITY OF PUBLIC WORKS

The bridge falls under Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Namit Mundad’s constituency.

The incident has fueled questions about how a project costing nearly Rs 48 lakh could allegedly suffer from such poor quality of construction.

The administration has not yet given an official response to the village residents’ accusations.
