As Dallas-Fort Worth prepares to host its first playoff game of this World Cup, last-minute asking prices for tickets on the secondary market have dropped significantly compared to prices for previous matches at Dallas Stadium.
Paying just over $700 for Tuesday’s Ivory Coast-Norway game on third-party ticketing platform StubHub will get you a seat in the upper deck of Dallas Stadium.
The price stands in stark contrast to last-minute prices for Saturday’s Argentina-Jordan match. Even with questions about how long Lionel Messi would play, if at all, the cheapest seat and opportunity to see the global superstar cost more than $2,000, according to StubHub.
The upcoming Ivory Coast-Norway game will not lack star power. It should feature Norwegian superstar striker Erling Haaland, one of the rising stars of the current World Cup and prolific goalscorer for Manchester City in the English Premier League.
Fans who won the FIFA lottery a few months ago had the opportunity to purchase World Cup tickets primarily in one of three price categories. Ticket buyers still didn’t know exactly which section they would be seated in, but FIFA provided a rough idea based on color-coded seat maps and prices were fixed.
For the Ivory Coast-Norway match at Dallas Stadium, those looking to buy last-minute tickets on the secondary market will face a different market. Ticket sellers are asking more, but not what you would have to pay for some of the previous matches in D-FW.
After Tuesday’s match, three more World Cup matches will be played in Arlington. Australia will play Egypt in the round of 16 match on Friday. The second round match between opponents yet to be determined will be played on July 6. And the semi-final match will take place at the Dallas Stadium on July 14.
