Tributes have been paid following the death of comedian Paul Sneddon, better known as Vladimir McTavish.

Announcing his death, The Stand Comedy Club in Glasgow said he was a “much valued and loved” member of the Scottish comedy scene.

During his 30-year stand-up career, Sneddon became a mainstay of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and appeared on several BBC radio and television programmes.

He was due to perform at the festival in August with a show to celebrate the “three months of chemotherapy” he underwent earlier in the year.

The Stand said in a statement: “He was known as much for his kindness, support and generosity as for his enormous talent.

“He made every green room brighter, every lineup more cheerful, and the world a nicer place to live.

“We are heartbroken by the loss of our dear friend and will celebrate his life accordingly in due course.”
