We’re just a few weeks away from the release of Spider-Man: New Day, but there’s still a lot we don’t know about the movie. There has been no confirmation about the main villain, the character of Sadie Sink has not been confirmed, and now it seems that there is another cryptic clue hiding in the title.
Speaking as part of the new documentary Generations: Evolution of the Spider-Men, which airs on Disney Plus in the US, Peter Parker star Tom Holland explained more. “Brand New Day of this movie is not the beginning, it’s the last shot of this movie,” he teased (via Twitter user SpiderManCD).
Right… Well, what does that mean? In our opinion, it definitely seems like Spider-Man 4 will be setting up some kind of twist ending. At the very least, this could hint at something big in Parker’s future, both personally and in the MCU.
As it stands, it’s not entirely clear what’s next for Holland’s character after this entry. We still don’t know if he will appear in Avengers: Judgment Day, and while there are rumors that he will appear in Avengers: Secret Wars, nothing has been confirmed.
Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal recently hinted that she hopes Brand New Day will be the start of a new trilogy. “I never want to be so presumptuous as to say that something will be a trilogy or even more than one. Of course it would be my dream, but who knows,” she told SFX magazine. “Because the truth is, we made a rule for ourselves to watch one movie at a time. It’s important to us that you don’t have to watch one film to watch another film.”
We won’t have to wait long to find out exactly what Holland is talking about, as Spider-Man: New Day hits cinemas on July 29 in the UK and July 31 in the US. The new film begins after Doctor Strange has erased the world’s memory of who the real Spider-Man is. Going it alone, Parker must face a new villain he doesn’t see in the latest Marvel movie.
