The teenager, who impressed during IPL 2026, has struggled to make the same impact against England, scoring 14 and 13 in the last two T20Is. England bowlers constantly target him with short deliveries, a tactic Patel believes will continue. According to Patel, England’s approach is not surprising as teams had already decided on this strategy during the IPL. Speaking to JioHotstar, he said, “Not just Jofra Archer, I think anyone who has watched the IPL will not be surprised that there is a deliberate plan to miss Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. It wasn’t just the wicket; the ball in front of her was short too. In the first game when he hit a six, he may not have bounced as much, but the line was the same.”Patel believes every team will continue to test the youngster’s speed and bounce.“As Vaibhav Suryavanshi progresses in his international career, he will continue to face this type of bowling, with short pitches and speeds above 145 kmph. So, the question will definitely be how he handles bowling on short pitches because every bowler will be looking to target him there,” he added.Patel also urged Indian batters to be more patient after they were bowled out for just 78 runs in the third T20I. He said players need time to settle down rather than attack from the start, especially in English conditions where pitches and ground sizes vary.“I would like to see a better understanding of the game and a little more awareness of the game from the Indian batters in Bristol. Yes, there are 200 runs on the board, but these are all experienced T20 batters and in this format you have a little more time than you think,” he said.“You can afford to bowl one or two overs to see the situation. The conditions are different, the wickets are not as flat and you need to get used to the size of the ground and the speed of the wicket. So it is very important to give yourself some time,” Patel added.India will now look to bounce back in the fourth T20I while England will be looking to wrap up the series with another win.
