A new PS5 update is available for download.

A new update has just been released for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro and is gradually rolling out to all consoles. It’s already available to us and it’s not that small, even if the individual patch notes are very handy (and quite familiar).

  • When will version 26.04-13.42.00 be available for PS5? henceforth
  • How big is the update? On the standard PS5, the download size is 1,247 GB.

These are the patch notes for system software version 26.04-13.42.00.

As with the latest PS5 update, the patch notes are fairly basic and not particularly informative. You can probably already guess what will happen – after all, the “new product”, which you can read about on the official PlayStation website, appears every now and then.

These are the official update notes:

  • We have improved the performance and stability of the system software.

And that’s all for patch notes. In these cases, Sony never reveals what exactly is behind the increased stability, and often simply closes security holes, fixes minor bugs, or makes similar server-side updates.

Initial reports of the update simply note that the GTA 6 pre-order screen has disappeared from the start screen for people who haven’t already clicked on it.

Major update expected in the future

We can expect a larger update in the future that will change the console’s user interface, among other things. At least that’s what PlayStation’s beta program suggests, where possible future features are often tested months in advance.

Previously, some users noticed a new menu in the top left corner. Instead of the Games and Media tabs, it lists the PS Plus overview, PlayStation Store, recently played games, or game library, which can be navigated using the R1 and L1 buttons.

It is not yet known if or when this feature will be available to everyone.

Are you still hoping for big changes in the PS5 updates?
