The unemployment rate in Canada continued to decline in June. Statistics Canada points out that the small decline was driven by the creation of 18,000 jobs, mostly in the private sector and part-time. It was 6.5%, down one-tenth of a percentage point from the previous month.
According to Statistics Canada, young people aged 15 to 24 gained almost 33,000 jobs, while people over the age of 55 lost 55,000 jobs, reducing gains.
In Quebec, employment also increased in June (+14,300; +0.2%), while the unemployment rate decreased by 0.2 percentage points to 5.4%. The provinces of Quebec and Manitoba also have the best rates in the country.
