Teresa Weatherspoon and Cynthia Cooper selected WNBA All-Star teams

Hall of Famer Teresa Weatherspoon bragged about her team’s competitiveness after completing the 2026 WNBA All-Star Draft on Wednesday afternoon.

She and fellow Hall of Famer Cynthia Cooper were selected as general managers to compile the lists.

Cooper, a two-time WNBA MVP, had a simple answer for her colleague. “But can you score enough points?” — Cooper said slyly on air.

The game will take place on July 25 at the United Center, home of the Chicago Bulls. The WNBA Shooting Stars event and three-point competition will take place July 24 at Wintrust Arena, home of the Chicago Sky.

“Team Coop” was the top pick in the coin toss, and Paige Bueckers came with it. The Dallas Wings’ star point guard received the most fan votes, so she was awarded to the team that won the coin toss.

“Paige does it all,” Cooper said. “She can shoot threes, she scores at all three levels, but most importantly, she is a leader on the floor. She really involves her entire team in everything they do.”

Indiana Fever point guard Caitlin Clark received the second most fan votes and was placed on “Team Spoon.”

Weatherspoon then received first choice over the rest of the starting lineup and immediately selected four-time MVP Agee Wilson (Aces). She rounds out Olivia Miles (Lynx), Aliyah Boston (Fever) and Jessica Shepard (Wings) in the starting lineup.

The bench was filled by Rhyne Howard (Dream), Allisha Gray (Dream), Jonquel Jones (Liberty), Courtney Williams (Lynx), Kiki Iriafen (Mystics) and Nneka Ogwumike (Sparks).

Two-time MVP Brianna Stewart was the first “Team Coop” pick as Cooper rounded out her starting lineup with Kelsey Mitchell (Fever), Natasha Howard (Lynx) and Gabby Williams (Valkyries).

Two-time All-Star Angel Reese (Dream) was selected as the first of the reserves, joining Marina Mabry (Temp), Dominique Malonga (Storm), Kelsey Plum (Sparks), Jackie Young (Ace) and Sonya Citron (Mystics).

Weatherspoon said she wants playmakers, scorers, rebounders and defenders.

“Kind of like putting together a well-balanced basketball team,” she said.

Cooper’s philosophy was a little simpler. Goal scorers were the number one priority, not to mention rebounders. She also wants her team to play fast and be able to move up and down the court since there are no half-court sets or calling plays.

The game will feature just one rookie in Miles and three other first-time All-Stars in Shepard, Malonga and Mabry.

Aces coach Becky Hammon will coach Team Coop and Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve will coach Team Spoon.

Both teams will compete for a $100,000 prize fund to benefit two Chicago-based organizations dedicated to keeping girls in sports. The organization paired with the winning team will receive $70,000.
