Matty Healy is preparing to marry Gabrielette Bechtel, but a new tabloid report has brought the conversation back to his brief relationship with Taylor Swift.
The 1975 frontman recently celebrated his bachelor party in Malibu, where he joined tribute band The 9075 to perform songs from his own band. Gabbriette has already celebrated her upcoming wedding with a theatrical bachelorette party in Las Vegas.
Days before the ceremony, the Daily Mail called Swift’s ongoing affair with Healy in the headlines as an unwanted distraction during the wedding.
The report’s blurb quoted a source as saying that Healy “really loved her” and that his mother, Denise Welch, did not like the effect the relationship and its consequences had on him.

The Daily Mail described Swift as an ongoing “problem” around Healy’s wedding, citing the attention still paid to their brief romance and the songs many believe bother him on her 2024 album: Department of Martyred Poets.

Healy and Swift’s romantic relationship began in the spring of 2023 after years of friendship and professional overlap. The relationship ended in June 2023 after a brief period of intense public scrutiny.
Healy later said that he was no longer interested in writing publicly about casual romantic relationships because he did not want his personal life to be turned into entertainment.
Denise Welch previously called Swift’s period “difficult”
Welch opened up about her son’s relationship with Swift during a July 2025 appearance on the channel. Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. She joked that becoming Swift’s mother-in-law was a role she was glad to lose, prompting a strong reaction from the studio audience.
She quickly added that she had nothing against Swift personally, but called the situation “complicated.” Welch said Healy handled the constant attention with dignity, despite songs on Department of Martyred Poets widely interpreted as a reference to him.
Welch was much more direct about her approval of Gabrielta. Upon confirmation of engagement Loose women in 2024, she said Healy ordered a black diamond ring and called Gabrielette everything she would want in a daughter-in-law.
She also said the family is “very happy” about the engagement. Healy and Gabrielette first sparked romance rumors in September 2023 and announced their engagement after attending Charli XCX’s show in Brooklyn the following June.

People reported that Healy celebrated his bachelor party by performing with The 9075, and video from the Malibu gathering showed him joining the band to perform songs like “The Sound” and “Sex.”
Healy wore a wig reminiscent of one of his early looks, danced with the tribute band and rode through the crowd above the guests. His 1975 bandmate George Daniel, married to Charli XCX, was also in attendance.
Gabrielette has already celebrated in Las Vegas
In June, Gabrielette had a bachelorette party in Las Vegas. TMZ reported that the celebration began with a mock arrest, during which she was jokingly handcuffed and whisked off onto a private jet.
She wore a vintage Chanel dress on the weekends, and other photos featured pink jewelry, playing card details, counterfeit money, champagne and a wedding party style with a theatrical Vegas theme.
