We’ve got another weather chaos here. VM! The start of the round of 16 match between Mexico and England at Estadio Aztec in Mexico City has been postponed. The game was scheduled for 2am German time (live on Magenta TV), but will now take place at 3am.
Reason: weather. About four hours before kick-off, a thunderstorm front hit the stadium and began to rain heavily. Thunderstorm protocol was immediately activated. This means that activities will only be allowed to resume 30 minutes after the last lightning strike within an eight-mile (about 13 kilometers) radius of the stadium.
Fans already in the stadium were asked to remain in their seats, and journalists were not allowed to leave the media center next to the arena.
