Recent releases include action films, crime thrillers, horror mysteries, emotional dramas and dark comedies. Here’s a look at the major South Indian films debuting digitally this week.
“Pallihattambi”, “Ego Raman” and others.
Some of the biggest releases include Pallihattambi starring Tovino Thomas, which will begin streaming on SonyLIV from July 24.This historical action film is set in Kerala in the late 1950s and is about Krishna Pillai, a man brought up in both Hindu and Christian families, whose life changes when he becomes the feared Pallichattambi.The film also features Kayadu Lohar, Siddique, Vijayaraghavan, Baburaj and Shatru, with Prithviraj Sukumaran making a special cameo appearance. Confirming the digital premiere, SonyLIV wrote, “Chattambi, loved by the entire country and locals, is now streaming on SonyLIV #Pallichattambi from July 24th exclusively on SonyLIV.”‘Ego Raman’ will also be released on Prime Video on July 24. The film is about Arivu, a TNPSC aspirant who fulfills his dream of becoming a government employee. Horror, crime and comedy
Fans of supernatural stories can look forward to The Mystery of Kaling when it premieres on Sun NXT on July 24th. The horror-comedy revolves around a group of college students who unknowingly unleash an ancient supernatural power. The film stars Dhyan Srinivasan, Altaf Saleem, Riyaz Khan and others. During its release, the film received mixed reviews from viewers. The AI scenes in the film were considered decent.On July 24, Netflix will also add City of Crooks to its catalog. The crime comedy is about four con men posing as an ordinary family and running a hotel in Karnataka. Arjun Das and Anna Ben lead the cast along with Yogi Babu, Vadivukkarasi and others.On the same day, ‘Triple Decker’ will debut directly OTT on ManoramaMAX. The dark comedy follows a delivery man whose attempt to help the woman he loves leads him into an increasingly chaotic situation. The film stars Akhil Sreekumaran, Vaishnavi and Gowri Kutty.
‘Chinna Chinna Aasai’ Gets OTT Release Date
Directed by Varsha Vasudev, Chinna Chinna Aasai will stream on JioHotstar from July 28. The film is set in Varanasi. The film follows two strangers whose lives are connected by an unexpected turn of events.Announcing the release, the streaming platform wrote: “Every little wish has a story worth telling. Chinna Chinna Aasai is streaming from July 28 in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi exclusively on JioHotstar.”
“Balan: Boy” will close the month
Rounding out the OTT releases of the month is Balan: The Boy, which will start streaming on ZEE5 from July 31st. The Malayalam-Telugu film, directed by Chidambaram, tells the story of a young boy raised by his mother in a women’s reformatory. After leaving the institution, they continue to change identities to escape their past. The climax, performance, technical part and music received praise from the audience.
