Ryan Coogler took the stage during a huge Marvel Studios panel in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, where he revealed that he will be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to direct a third film. Black Panther film exclusively in cinemas December 15, 2028. Joined Letitia WrightAKA Shuri, and Winston DukeAKA M’Baku, Coogler announced that David Johnson (The Long Walk, Alien: Romulus) will be the new Black Panther in the upcoming film.
While introducing Jonsson, Coogler shared details about the character he will be playing. “The last time we had to make a movie, we introduced a character who is the son of the character played by the great Chadwick Boseman, our T’Challa, in this movie. And today I want to tell you that in the next film he will grow up (and) come of age.”
Jonsson came out to a standing ovation from the crowd. “I want to say thank you so much,” he told the audience. “Thank you Ryan, thank you Kevin (Feige), thank you to this wonderful family that I am honored, privileged and blessed to join. I don’t really want to say too much because I want the screen to do the talking. But believe me, this honor belongs entirely to me.”
