Once again, a municipal police officer shot and killed the driver when he refused to comply. The agent was charged with “voluntary violence” after he shot and killed a motorist who was trying to evade security on Tuesday night in the direction of Avignon. He was placed under judicial supervision, the prosecutor’s office added on Thursday, July 16. A ban on professional activities was not imposed.
The investigation will continue under the direction of the investigating judge. On Wednesday, at around 2:30 a.m., the Ponte municipal police team attempted to check after noticing that the driver was committing “numerous traffic violations that endanger other users”– says a press release from Avignon Deputy Prosecutor Nicolas Delpierre.

“The offender defies control and takes numerous risks to escape control.”text continues. The agent then executes “two consecutive shots hit the driver in the upper body”. Previously the police “tried to reason with the driver”ordering him to stop, the prosecution says.
Despite the help of emergency services, death was recorded at 3:29 a.m., the prosecutor’s office indicates. The driver, 29 years old, was from Bouches-du-Rhône. “Recently released from custody, he no longer had a driver’s license.”according to the prosecution.
The Avignon prosecutor’s office has asked the victim assistance association to support his relatives and keep them informed of the progress of the trial. Two investigations have been opened: one into the facts at this stage, described as “aggravated refusal to comply” and “violence with weapons against persons in public authority”, entrusted to the Avignon Investigation Brigade; the second was brought on charges of “premeditated murder” assigned to the Marseille research department.
