Open weather: what’s the forecast for Royal Birkdale?

No rain is forecast for the first two days of the tournament, with only a slight chance of a passing shower over the weekend. Here’s a local meteorologist’s pre-tournament forecast:

Open field: who plays at Royal Birkdale?

This week’s major has 156 players, the last of four in men’s golf in as many months. The Open Championship follows the Masters (April 9-12), the PGA Championship (May 14-17) and the US Open (June 18-21).

A full list of qualifying exemptions, including Open Qualifying Series and Final Qualifying events, can be found on The Open website.

Play will begin at 6:35 a.m. on Thursday and Friday, and weekend play times will depend on how many players qualify.

The top 70 players and ties after 36 holes will qualify and qualify for the final two rounds.

Sky Sports is once again the exclusive home of The Open in Great Britain and Ireland, with the final men’s tournament of the year kicking off on Sky Sports Golf at 6.30am on Thursday.

Both the first two rounds will feature at least 15 hours of action, with bonus channels available on Sky Sports+ or Sky Sports appwith extended coverage starting at 9 a.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday.
