Australians are being urged to reconsider whether they need to visit more countries as tensions in the Middle East persist.
The government has updated its travel advice for Jordan, Oman and Saudi Arabia, with officials calling the conflict “volatile”.
All three countries have raised their advisory level to level three, prompting people to reconsider whether they need to travel.
The warning, published on the Smartraveller website, advises Australians to “avoid non-essential travel” and “stay as short as possible” during transit.
The three countries, along with Bahrain, Israel, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, have received Level 3 warnings as officials continue to respond to the developing conflict in the Middle East.
Meanwhile, six countries remain at the highest alert level, which advises Australians not to travel at all.
These are Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria and Yemen.
“We have revised our travel advice to Jordan, Oman and Saudi Arabia and raised our overall travel advice,” Smartraveller warned.
“Our advice now is to ‘reconsider the need for travel’ in general due to the unpredictable security situation. Avoid non-essential travel to these locations.
“If you must transit, stay as short as possible and avoid unnecessary activities.
“Airspace can close at short notice. Flights can change or stop suddenly. Borders can close.”
