McGregor and Holloway are former UFC champions, but they came to this position in different ways.

Irishman McGregor signed with the UFC in 2013 as a featherweight and became the unified champion after winning seven straight fights.

The 37-year-old made history when he won the lightweight title three fights later, becoming the first two-time UFC champion at the same time.

McGregor has won 10 and lost four fights in the UFC, with three of his last four Octagon appearances ending in defeat.

Holloway lost in his debut in 2012 and fought 17 times to capture the featherweight title before establishing himself as one of the best to ever compete in the division.

The 34-year-old has won 23 and lost nine of his 32 UFC fights, including a loss to McGregor in 2013, and has had eight title fights.

In addition to previously holding the featherweight belt, Holloway also won the symbolic BMF title, awarded to the UFC’s toughest fighter.

This will be Holloway’s welterweight debut, with McGregor having previously competed in the weight class twice, defeating Donald Cerrone and losing to Nate Diaz.

Both men prefer the head when throwing punches: 70% of McGregor’s punches land there, and Holloway’s 65%.

McGregor has earned a reputation for finishing fights the distance, with only 7% of his fights ending in decision, although it’s worth bearing in mind that he’s been inactive for five years.

Holloway, meanwhile, is not a high-scoring fighter, with 56% of his fights coming at distance.
