The Canadian leader’s visit comes less than 48 hours after U.S. President Donald Trump criticized Canada’s handling of wildfires ravaging northern Ontario.
The White House tenant has threatened to impose new tariffs on Canada if the latter does not step up efforts to fight the fire.
US Ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra has indicated that Donald Trump may demand that the final between Argentina and Spain be moved if air quality in the New York area does not improve by Sunday.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum will also take part in the decisive match, having accepted the invitation of the American president.
Remember, Canada, the United States and Mexico are jointly hosting soccer’s most prestigious competition in 2026.
