Loose Women star Janet Street-Porter was inundated with support from fans when she took to social media to announce her “big news”.

As a writer, broadcaster and former editor of The Independent On Sunday she first studied architecture and then, in her early twenties, began her journalism career as a columnist and fashion editor before moving into television and radio as a presenter and senior executive at the BBC.

Janet has won numerous awards, including Columnist of the Year, the Prix Italia for Arts Programs and the BAFTA Award for Originality. She continues to write for the national press on a wide range of topics.

The 79-year-old TV presenter became a regular panelist in 2011 but had to briefly leave the show 13 years later to undergo and recover from hip replacement surgery.

Last year, Janet had to say goodbye to the ITV talk show briefly as she had a knee replacement. She then shared, “I’m going to have my right knee replaced. I had left knee replacement surgery, oh, that must have been eight or nine years ago.

“I had my left hip replaced last October, so the left side of my body is practically bionic. So tomorrow it’s the right knee and honestly, I can’t wait.”

When asked if she was in a lot of pain, Janet admitted: “I’m in a lot of pain and then I tore my neck just to frost the cake so I can’t move it.”

She continued: “I’m going away for three weeks so I’m not going away forever, I’ll be doing all this physio and I want to say to anyone thinking about knee replacement, stick with the exercises. Get up, move as much as possible… The last two weeks have been really chronic.”

After a successful tour last year, Janet took to Instagram to announce her “big news” and that she was going on another national tour.

In the video, she stated: “Hi! Guess what? I’m turning 80 this year, it’s a miracle, isn’t it? Anyway, my agent decided I better make him some money before I go to that wonderful disco in the sky.

“So he sends me to another all-female show! The biggest one. I’m going to travel the whole country, from Kent to Aberdeen, 32 dates! I must be coming to a theater near you.

“So what’s in my show? Promiscuous sex, husbands, failed engagements, other Loose Women, one-way city systems that you can’t understand because they’ve changed it all since you were there last year. Anything that makes me go astray, so buy your tickets now… What are you waiting for? Take these tickets now, you want to meet me, right?!”

In the caption, she added: “JSP BIG NEWS (sic) I’m going on tour again! Yes, 32 concerts across the country, and I will come to a theater near you. If you want to hear everything I can’t say on daytime TV, get yourself a ticket!” Co-panelist Ruth Langsford commented: “I’ll be there… again!!”

The tour is called Still Off the Leash at 80 and starts this September. At the time of writing, Janet has no plans to perform in Manchester, but has gigs in Liverpool, Leeds and Lancaster.
