President Kevin Guskiewicz is at Michigan State University.

A source close to Michigan State University told the State News on Monday that Guskiewicz will remain at the university following his application to Clemson University.

The source also added that MSU does not intend to retain athletic director J. Butt after his departure to the University of Kentucky.

In a statement posted by X, Clemson University wrote that “The Clemson University Board of Trustees was notified today that Kevin Guskiewicz has decided to remain at Michigan State University for personal reasons.”

On May 27, the Clemson board voted unanimously to welcome Guskiewicz as its 16th president. In a letter to the community before he left, Guskiewicz blamed some members of the Board of Trustees for his departure.

Following his resignation, East Lansing was covered in signs reading “We (Heart) KG,” signaling the community’s support for the outgoing president while others mobilized against the Board of Regents.

Several weeks after Guskiewicz’s resignation was announced, Batt was hired to the same position at the University of Kentucky on June 15. It is currently unclear when his last day at MSU will be.

At the time of publication, Butt is listed in the MSU and University of Kentucky employee directories.

If Guskiewicz were to leave MSU, Bett’s buyout would be reduced from $5 million to $2.5 million.

MSU could not be reached for comment at the time of publication.
