Amazon founder Jeff Bezos appears to have flown to Sydney on a US$80 million private jet with his new wife Lauren Sanchez Bezos, landing at around 1pm local time on Friday.
Diners said they saw the Bezos dining at the upscale Mimi’s eatery near Coogee Beach. Bezos is ranked fourth on Forbes’ list of the world’s richest people, with a net worth of about US$260 billion ($372 billion).
Customers at Mimi’s were surprised to see a man they identified as Jeff Bezos and his wife Lauren Sanchez Bezos on Friday.
Visitors surprised to see one of the world’s true tech titans in Sydney posted slightly blurry images of the couple dining next to an unidentified woman in pink.
There was no official confirmation that the man was Bezos, but one source said that if it wasn’t him, it was a man whose wife was a spitting image of Sanchez Bezos and who had enough money to surround himself with private security. According to the visitor, burly bodyguards preceded the Bezos’s entry into the restaurant and sat at a nearby table during the meal.
Flight tracking data also shows the plane owned by Bezos, a Gulfstream G700 private jet, landed in Sydney at 1:15 pm EST after flying from the Pacific Ocean.
Billionaire, owner Washington Post is no longer chief executive of Amazon, the online retail and web services giant that accounts for most of his wealth, but remains the company’s executive chairman.
Instead, Bezos is reportedly spending more time at his rocket company Blue Origin, which is approaching a mammoth US$10 billion capital raise, as it tries to catch up with Elon Musk’s SpaceX.

The financing, which is nearly complete, values the company at about $130 billion, but the company suffered a setback in May when one of its signature New Glenn rockets exploded on the ground during testing.
Flight tracking expert Jack Sweeney first pegged Bezos as owning a Gulfstream G700 jet, which can reach a top speed of around Mach 1 and seat up to 19 people, in 2024. It is one of the most luxurious private jets available for purchase and the top of the line from Gulfstream, boasting up to five accommodations, depending on configuration, and a range of 14,353 kilometers.
Bezos’ net worth puts him below the world’s richest man, Musk, and Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, but above Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg. Bezos married Sanchez, his second wife, in 2025.
The Bezos’ plans in Australia are unknown. Amazon Australia and Merivale, the company that operates Mimi’s, have been contacted for comment.
