Designed to detect and counter enemy submarines in shallow waters, INS Malvan will further enhance the power of the Indian Navy. INS Malvan, the second Mahe Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) class warship, has been inducted into the Navy at Karwar Naval Station in Karnataka.

INS Malvan, the second Mahe Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) class warship, was officially commissioned into the Indian Navy on Wednesday, July 22, at the Karwar naval base of the Western Naval Command in Karnataka.
Indian Air Force Chief Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh was the chief guest at the commissioning ceremony. INS Malvan will now be part of the Indian Navy fleet and will be responsible for detecting and countering enemy submarines in shallow waters.
INS Malvan, built by the Kochi-based Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), is considered a major achievement of India’s ‘Self-Reliant India’ campaign. This warship uses more than 80 percent local materials and systems. It also reflects the design, construction and integration capabilities of India’s modern warships.
Despite its compact size, INS Malvan is extremely powerful. It was specially designed for fast operation, precise action and long mission in shallow sea areas. With the induction into the Navy, India’s Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW-SWC) series will be further strengthened.
INS Malvan is the second Anti-Submarine Warfare Ship (ASW-SWC) of the Mahe class. This class of warships was specially created to detect enemy submarines hidden in the shallow waters of the sea and combat them.
According to the Indian Navy, INS Malvan has characteristics such as maneuverability, precision and durability (endurance). These characteristics allow it to identify underwater threats and effectively counter them.
The entry of INS Malvan into the Navy is considered significant at a time when submarine activity in the Indian Ocean region is on the rise. This warship, specialized in anti-submarine warfare, will further strengthen the maritime security of the Indian Navy.
