Chelsea are pleased to confirm that Giovani Kenda has joined the club from Sporting Lisbon on a contract until 2034.
Kenda is considered one of the brightest talents in European football, having played a key role in Sporting winning the Portuguese league title and a Portuguese Cup double last year. He was also named Primeira Liga Young Player of the Season in 2025 and has been a regular for Sporting in the last two seasons, playing in both attacking and full-back positions.
“I’m really pleased to be here,” said the 19-year-old. “Chelsea are a great team and I’m delighted to be playing here at Stamford Bridge.” The club has shown faith in players like me and I’m proud to be here, proud to be part of this club.
“I am very happy to work with my teammates and coach Xabi Alonso. I am a very hard working young man and I enjoy helping my team. I want to be a person known for his mentality, who will help my teammates, and who will do whatever it takes for the club to win trophies.”
Kenda became the youngest player ever to score for Sporting in his debut season and finished the campaign having already played 54 games in all competitions and won a double. He also holds the record for being the youngest Portuguese player to score a goal in the UEFA Champions League.
Kenda most recently represented Portugal at under-21 level and was named in the Team of the Tournament for the 2025 European Championships.
