The ongoing student agitation against the central government and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in the NEET paper leak (NEET-UG) case has now reached within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). A video circulating on social media shows Dibisha Mahanta, daughter of Assam Revenue Minister and senior Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leader Keshav Mahanta, herself taking to the streets along with the protesters on Thursday.

Politics in Assam heat up over viral video
During the protest, Dibisha Mahanta was seen shouting slogans among the regular students while holding placards. Videos of his slogans are becoming increasingly viral on social media.
The development has caused a stir in Assam politics as Keshav Mahanta’s father is a senior minister in the Assam government and the second most important leader of the BJP’s ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) in the state after party president Atul Bora.
Dibisha’s protest was against the outright resignation of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan from the BJP, a key component of the NDA at the Centre, and the responsibility of Prime Minister Modi.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s reaction
Answering questions from journalists on this matter, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma looked into the situation and made a very balanced statement.
He said: “This is a student demonstration and we respect their demands and arguments. Our Prime Minister himself takes this whole NEET issue very seriously. However, Assam is currently facing a terrible natural disaster in the form of floods. “I ask everyone that our main focus at this time is to clean up the floods and help the affected people.”

This protest in Chachala was completely peaceful. A team of Assam Police reached the spot to ensure security and no untoward incident was reported.
It is worth noting that the nationwide anger over rigging in the NEET-UG exam shows no sign of abating and the daughter of a cabinet minister in Assam taking to the streets against the government shows that the issue is no longer limited to just political parties but has even affected ordinary families.
