Vancouver (Canada), July 7 (EFE). – This Tuesday, a large group of Colombians decorated the area around Vancouver Stadium in bright tricolor lights to bid farewell to the final match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup played on Canadian soil, hours before facing Switzerland in the round of 16.
The hours before the clash passed in an atmosphere of relative calm and high expectations: dozens of fans arrived in droves to the sports facility.
Most of them, with their eyes fixed on the screens, are closely following the outcome of the previous match between Agentina and Egypt.
Among the fans waiting for the doors to open at the stadium where they hope to make history, the vueltiao hat, a garment officially declared the cultural symbol of the nation in Colombia, was prevalent.
“It’s a dream for us that my team is playing in the country where I live,” Sebastian, a young resident of Colombia in Canada, told EFE that he never expected to experience the moment of watching the coffee producers play a World Cup match.
Seeing the coffee producers play a match in Vancouver “is the most exciting thing you can see,” a Colombian fan who attended the stadium as part of a group told EFE.
“It makes my hair stand on end,” another coffee fan told EFE.
The Colombian wave dominated the crowd, while a timid Swiss presence gradually emerged in the stadium.
