King Charles III will make his first visit to the Isle of Man as monarch.

The king, who also holds the title Lord Mann, will speak at a special meeting of Tynwald in Douglas.

In his speech he will follow in the footsteps of his late mother Queen Elizabeth II, who addressed the Isle of Man Parliament in 1955 as Lord Mann.

The King’s visit to the island will take place on Tuesday, Isle of Man authorities have confirmed.

Following the Tynwald meeting, the King will meet well-wishers outside the Legislative Building on Bucks Road.

A garden party in honor of the King will be held at Government House.

He is also planning to visit the Douglas Bay Horse Tram to mark its 150th anniversary and take a ride on the newly restored double-decker tram No. 18, the world’s oldest operating tram.

Lieutenant Governor His Excellency Sir John Lorimer said: “His Majesty the King’s first official visit as Lord of Mann is an important moment in the history of the island and for our community.

“This visit reflects the strong relationship between the Crown and the Isle of Man and provides an opportunity to share with His Majesty the people, places and traditions that make our island so unique.

“I look forward to welcoming His Majesty and demonstrating the warmth and spirit for which the Isle of Man is famous.”

Chief Minister Alfred Kannan MHK said: “The King’s visit is a proud occasion for the Isle of Man. As Lord of Mann, His Majesty occupies a unique place in the constitutional life of our island.

“I know many residents will welcome the opportunity to see the king and come together to mark this important moment in our island’s history.”
