Gina Brückenkemper’s strong finish in Paris: The German mixed relay team celebrates at first, but there’s a bitter turnaround after they cross the finish line.
Paris – It was an impressive finish, but it didn’t pay off in the end: in the preliminary program of the Diamond League meeting in Paris, Soest sprinter Gina Lückekemper (SCC Berlin) competed in the German Athletics Association 4x100m mixed relay on Sunday.
The 29-year-old was placed last in the race in the French capital and fled the race at the finish line. But the joy of victory was short-lived. The quartet of Denise Almas (TV Wattenscheid), Rebecca Haase (Sprintteam Wetzlar), Robin Gunter (MTG Mannheim) and Gina Brückenkemper were disqualified for leaving the track, so the victory went to the hosts from France.
Brückenkemper previously competed in the 100-meter individual race, where she finished in 11.39 seconds. Her best time of the season is 11.21 seconds.
