Broncos winger Josiah Carapani resigns over alleged drink driving and traffic violations

Brisbane Broncos winger Josiah Carapani has been dropped from the squad ahead of this weekend’s match after he was issued a notice to appear in court on a drink-driving charge.

Queensland Police confirmed a 24-year-old man was stopped by police on the Pacific Highway in Eight Mile Plains on Sunday. He was taken to the Holland Park Police Station where he allegedly showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.037 percent.

As a provisional license holder, Carapani is required to maintain a blood alcohol concentration of zero.

Carapani was also issued a number of infringement notices for driving an unregistered vehicle, not having P1 plates, driving an uninsured vehicle and exceeding the speed limit by at least 11km/h.

He was issued a notice to appear at Holland Park Magistrates Court on July 21.

Brisbane Broncos have confirmed Carapani will not be available for NRL selection for this Saturday’s Round 18 game against the Sharks.

The club said in a statement that the NRL’s integrity department had been informed.

He remains under contract with the Broncos until at least the end of the 2027 season.
