Broadway alum Josh Grisetti has died at the age of 44. BroadwayWorld sadly reports that “Something Rotten!” and The It Should Have Been You star took his own life on Friday, July 10.
Rob McClure, who co-starred with Grisetti in Something Rotten!, shared the news on social media.
“It is with a broken heart that I share the news that the brilliant Josh Grisetti took his own life on Friday. I’m not ready to even try to understand. My heart goes out to his wife and family as they try to cope with the reality of this. Some of my favorite memories are with this man, playing his brother on stage for many years, watching him inspire students while transforming the Musical Theater program at Cal State Fullerton… and having the honor of being best man at his wedding. Maggie and I Communities around the world will never be the same without him.”
Sierra Boggess, who shared the stage with Grisetti in It Should Have Been You, also shared the news on social media.
“It is with the deepest sorrow that I share with you that our beloved friend Josh Grisetti took his own life on Friday morning. Nothing I say will make this pain less. We all loved him incredibly much. He created light, thought and humor wherever he went.”
Grisetti directed the production of Legally Blonde at the Trentino Music Festival. He sadly left the production before the premiere, citing personal reasons. He wished the actors a happy premiere on social networks.
Before his tragic death, Grisetti was an assistant professor and director of the BFA musical theater program at California State University, Fullerton. He is survived by his wife, Mackenzie Grisetti.
Grisetti has also been seen in Neil Simon’s films Bound on Broadway, Peter and the Starcatcher, Rent, Enter Laughing (a Theater World Award winner), Love’s Red Eye, Candida and After the Ball.
